Neil Gaiman was part of a YOUTH Forum panel discussion held prior to the Connecticut Forum‘s Vision & Brilliance event this past weekend in Hartford. 30 or so students were in the room with Gaiman and astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson and designer/director Neri Oxman. One student rose to share the fact she had been told there are “enough” artists in the world and that she should do something else. What did Neil think? Gaiman’s response was concise, impassioned, had a dash of humor, and is worth taking a minute to listen to, especially if you are someone who feels discouraged about the merits of your own urge to create.
(Editor’s Note: I apologize to Neil Gaiman…and Amanda Palmer…and anyone else who might care that Neil’s eyes are shut in the YouTube screen cap above. Not sure how to change that.)
