Top Story – Creative Paralysis Abating
I just went through a rough patch. Maybe not writing in the blog for a several days was a symptom. Maybe it was a contributing cause. But, for the past week or so, I was having trouble writing…well, anything good at all. Worse, my ideas turned stale. Nothing new. Nothing interesting. I looked through my journals and rolled my eyes, shook my head.
I feel sure of a couple of the other causes. One, I spent much of the past 6-8 weeks revising existing stories rather than generating new material. That’s a long time (for me) to be driving along with the gear shift lodged in Revision. Grinding a few gears trying to find the one that lets me create new stuff is probably to be expected. Also, I just finished reading a couple of novels that I enjoyed less than I had hoped I might. Both by well known authors. Both bored me after awhile. When I’m not reading stuff that excites me, I’m not putting the best fuel in the engine. I keep going, but my acceleration and mileage vary.
But, thank goodness, all of that seems to be past. I’ve latched onto a new story idea that I’m pretty excited about. It’s in the sketching stage, where I’m scribbling in my journal rather than typing. Hope to have a first draft in a week or two. Past that, I also have two more stories lined up that I want to write before I crank out a Christmas play for my church and then shift to writing my first novel. What’s it going to be about? I’ve no idea. Well…actually I have several ideas. I just haven’t picked one to run with.

Weather – Crazy Winds and Power Outages
We’ve been having some intense storms roll through my town. Not much lightning. Little rain compared to the deluge we received in March. But we’re getting super intense winds. The village I live in has lost power twice in the past couple of weeks. We lost it for 4 1/2 hours yesterday. My family took it in stride, except for the fact that the kids “lost” their TV time in the late afternoon and the adults didn’t get to see American Idol. Strangest thing was the silence. No radio. No TV. No music playing. Landline phone dead. No WiFi.
Sports – Play Ball!
I’m managing a Little League Farm A team this spring. This past weekend was the start of our 14-game season and was super busy. Opening ceremony complete with singing of the national anthem. Team photos. Two games. It went really, really well. The kids even put together a 1-2-3 inning in their first game. They’re having fun and getting better and those are the metrics I use to measure our success.
