Up at 6:00am. Greet children, who are already awake. Shower, get dressed. Get breakfast started. Take out the trash and recyclables for pick up. Write memo to teacher allowing older son to go home on a different bus for a playdate after school. Start new load of laundry and get wet stuff onto drying rack. Finish and serve breakfast. Make and pack older son’s lunch. Go upstairs to write. Solid, satisfying hour of revision work. Phone library and reserve museum pass. Get younger son ready to go, say goodbye to wife. Drive to library, pick up pass. Drive to children’s museum. Two hours of educational fun with my younger son. Hand him a snack in the car to tide him over until we get back home. At home, make and serve lunch. Afterwards, set younger son up with video to watch. Go out to garage and play with power tools. Finish stilts and tandem walkers for older son’s Cub Scout meeting. Check and respond to email. Swap laundry loads and keep that moving. Take younger son outside into glorious weather to play. Frisbee. T-ball. Other neighborhood kids join in. Four different versions of tag. Switch to capture the flag. More kids join in. Lots of running and excercise for me. Send neighbor kids home, hand off younger son to wife, who is now home. Put dinner in oven to warm. Load materials for Cub Scout meeting into van. Move younger son’s car seat. Go get older son from playdate. Back home, serve dinner. Get dressed for Cub Scout meeting. Take both sons to meeting. Co-lead meeting, including introducing 8 kids to stilting in about 10 minutes. Drive home. Get both kids ready for bed. Tell them a bedtime story. Tuck them in. Check email. Goof off reading sports coverage for 20 minutes or so. Swap laundry loads to keep that going. Yoga and stretching while listening to The Decemberists. Blog entry. Clean kitchen. Welcome wife home from her evening event. Read. Lights out by 11:00pm.
